Great Time Management Techniques
The Six Keys to Success
Are you looking back over your life and wondering what did I do with my time? Feeling disappointed that you didn’t get the promotion you were counting on? Didn’t make as much money as you would have liked? Didn’t get to take that vacation you wanted so badly? Wondering if you are missing the best part of your children’s lives? Concerned life is passing you by?
If so, you are not alone. Most of us don’t have good time management techniques in place and have experienced the frustration of not getting the things done that really mattered.
According to Brent Peterson’s research for his new book, Fakework, 87% of us are not satisfied with the results of our work. The reason is, we are allowing unimportant activity to interrupt our focus on the truly important aspects of life which in turn causes us to lose our focus on how we manage the time we need to devote to these.
Many people I have coached have learned how to turn this frustration into the satisfaction of a job well done. Let me share six great time management techniques that will change your world, allowing you to experience the elation of accomplishment and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Key #1: What: Identify your 3 – 5 Critical to Success (CTS) activities that are absolutely essential in making your life a success. In other words, if you don’t get these things done you won’t get that pay raise.
Key #2: How: Create an action plan for each objective. (Please note that your schedule and action plan have totally different functions. I will explain the difference in upcoming articles.)
Key #3: When: Develop a sequential schedule that steps you through to the successful completion of your objectives. Be reasonable and make the steps achievable but challenging.
Key #4: Tracking: Measure your results weekly and adjust your course as the need arises. Keeping score validates your effort, telling you what is working and what is not.
Key #5: Help: Enlist the help of a trusted associate or coach to hold you accountable to your objectives. This person must be someone you respect who is able to tell it like it is and you will listen.
Key #6: Reward: Celebrate your successes immediately and often.
These six great time management techniques work in all areas of life – both professional and personal – for any age group and for any reason. They are time tested and work in the real world.
I am sharing my secrets through a series of articles describing how we can begin developing and implementing these techniques.
