ABC's of Prioritizing
Assign a letter that represents the relative importance of each activity on your Task/Activity List as follows:
- A’s are critical, must be done. These are tasks or steps in projects that will determine your success or failure.
- B’s are important and need to be done; however, they are not as important as the A’s.
- C’s are the things that would be nice to get done and get off your list. They can usually wait till the A’s and B’s are done, though.
Once you’ve identified your ABC’s, go back and figure out which A’s are most important and put a #1 by the one you want to and must do first. A2 by the next. This will help you focus because you’ll know the order in which you’re going to tackle your tasks.
You may not get to complete a project in a day, but you canget going on the things that matter most to you professionally and personally. You’ll probably have A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2, C3, C4 and maybe more.
Enjoy the sense of accomplishment you’ll have!
